How to convert kVA to watts?

What is the difference between kVA and watts?

How to convert watts to kVA?

Why do generators and inverters use kVA instead of watts?
Generators and inverters must supply the full apparent power (kVA) that the load demands, even if only a portion of it (watts) does useful work. A 5 kVA generator can safely supply 5,000 VA of current flow regardless of the power factor. The actual usable watts depend on the connected equipment. This is why a “5 kVA generator” powers approximately 4,000 watts of real load at a typical 0.8 power factor — not 5,000 watts.
